Our Vicar

Georgekutty Abraham was born as the fourth child of Philipose and Annamma Abraham Kalimkoottil, Pampady.   In his early age, he took his grandfather as his role model , a predominant member and a well respected elder of St. Simon Syrian Orthodox Church (Karikkamattam). His grandfather's prayer life and dedication to the church activities encouraged him to be a devoted Christian from his childhood. His first venture into the service of our Lord was as an alter boy at his local church (St. Simon Syrian Orthodox Church)

As he came to America in the 1978,  he had the opportunity  to live with H.E. Yoohannan Mar Philexinios for a few years.  Under his teachings and guidance,  Georgekutty decided to dedicate his life for God's ministry . He was ordained as deacon on September 14, 1981 by the supreme head of the universal Syrian Orthodox Church,  His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas. After the completion of his B.Th. from Logos Bible College, New York, he was ordained priest by H.E. Geevarghese Mar Gregorios (Perumpalli Thirumeni) on December 8, 1984.  He served as  Vicar of the Staten Island Church, New York from 1984 to 1988.

He came to Tampa, Florida in 1988 and established Mar Gregorios Syrian Orthodox Church and he has been the Vicar of this church ever since. His prayer life and commitment to the community has given him a nickname "Our George Achen".
